After weeks of anticipation, USC quarterback Matt Barkley finally participated in his team’s Pro Day on Wednesday as scouts were anxious to see whether or not his shoulder would have an impacto on his performance. While Barkley’s shoulder appeared to be just fine and he performed well overall, the USC star should be considered a first-round pick considering how many teams are in desperate need of a quarterback.
Say what you want about Barkley’s draft stock slipping when compared to last year, but the truth is he’s shown NFL potential ever since he stepped on the field for the Trojans as a freshman four years ago. It’s unfair to analyze Barkley based off of last year considering how terrible USC was in general and keep in mind this is a quarterback that has thrown for nearly 7,000 yards and 75 touchdowns over the last two seasons.
In other words–Barkley would make a great addition to plenty of teams and could end up being one of the biggest steals of the first round.
From the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Oakland Raiders, there are plenty of teams that will most likely be looking for a quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft that would be lucky enough to land a player like Barkley. Keep in mind that Barkley most likely would have been one of the top picks if he entered the draft last year if he didn’t decide to return to school for his senior season–so don’t be surprised if he ends up being a first-round pick after all in April.
