Texas Rangers Pitcher Yu Darvish Falls One Out Shy of Perfect Game
If you thought the Texas Rangers were crazy for all the money spent just to talke to Yu Darvish (they spent over $50 million just to negotiate a contract for this guy?), just take a look at what he did during Tuesday’s performance and it’s safe to say it was money well spent.
Even if the game was against the Houston Astros, it’s difficult to Darvish was one out away from a perfect game before Marwin Gonzalez hit a single in the bottom of the ninth inning. He may have fallen short of making MLB history, but Darvish was unstoppable throughout Tuesday’s performance as he recorded 14 strikeouts in the Rangers 7-0 win.
Forget about all of the talk surrounding whether or not this team would still be contenders without Josh Hamilton–the Astros are loaded with enough talent to make another run at the playoffs and don’t be surprised if we’re talking about Darvish taking home Cy Yong honors at the end of the season. There’s a reason why Texas was willing to spend as much money as they did to have him join the team and it appears he has a bright future ahead of him in the big leagues.
If you thought this performance against Houston was impressive–just wait and see what’s in store for the rest of the season for Darvish. It may have been just one game, but Darvish couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the 2013 season.
