2013 NFL Draft Player Prospect Profile: Matt Barkley

With the 2013 NFL Draft quickly approaching, there’s been plenty of talk about which team USC quarterback Matt Barkley could end up on considering there was a good chance he would have been a top-five pick last year if he didn’t choose to return to school. There are plenty of teams that could be willing to take a risk on a quarterback like Barkley and despite how last season turned out for the Trojans–Barkley could turn out to be one of the biggest steals of this year’s draft.

Think about it–if Barkley was supposed to be a top-five pick last season, why wouldn’t anyone want to take him in the first round if he was available in a few weeks? What happened at USC during the 2012 season shouldn’t be reflected on what Barkley is capable of in the NFL and his numbers alone back it up.

Over the last two seasons, Barkley has thrown for nearly 7,000 yards to go along with 75 touchdowns–which is impressive for just about any quarterback at the college level. Barkley has shown NFL potential since he started as a freshman and there’s no reason for any team to be concerned over his shoulder injury as he proved it would not be an issue during the USC Pro Day.

One team will realize how much of a steal Barkley could end up being and he’s a rookie that will be heavily followed throughout the course of his rookie season in 2013.
