2013 NFL Draft Player Prospect Profile: Johnathan Hankins
There was a reason why the Ohio State Buckeyes had one of the most underrated defenses in college football last season and Johnathan Hankins was a big reason as to why. Ever since he was a true freshamn, Hankins always showed plenty of potential and was the type of defensive tackle who seemed to just get better and better each season.
Now that he’s ready to take his game to the big leagues–there’s no reason why that shouldn’t be a similar case in the NFL.
Hankins has received plenty of praise for his awareness on the football field throughout his career and is great when it comes to stopping the run–which is why he’s considered one of the top defensive tackles in this year’s draft class. The NFL has seen plenty of successful defensive players come out of Ohio State over the years and there’s no reason why Hankins shouldn’t be able to follow the same steps of some of those greats.
As long as he works on his hands usage–Hankins should be in for a successful rookie season. The potential is certainly there for Hankins as he has the type of work ethic where he should improve with each season of experience.
This year’s draft class is filled with plenty of great defensive tackles, but Hankins may be one of those gems that could turn out to be a steal in the long run if his career with the Buckeyes is any indication of what to expect.
