There’s plenty of talent at the cornerback position in the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft, but the fact that Desmond Trufant started all four years at Washington shows just how valuable of a cornerback he really is and how much potential is there for him to succeed at the NFL level.
When it comes to cover skills, Trufant may be one of the best in this year’s class as he’s been praised for his ability to cover in both man and zone coverage. Not to mention Trufant has always had a reputation for being one of those cornerbacks who isn’t afraid to place the heavy hit on his opponents–which any team will love.
Give him a few years to gain some experience and there’s a good chance Trufant may turn out to be one of the biggest steals of the 2013 NFL Draft–especially if he manages to work on his speed. It’s always beneficial when a cornerback can make an impact during his rookie season and it will be interesting to see how well Trufant makes the transition to the NFL after an impressive career at Washington.
Not many players have what it takes to start as a freshman in college, but Trufant proved he was capable of overcoming the odds and was a key factor for Washington’s defense over the last couple of years. The bar has been set high for Trufant as a rookie–so it will be fun to see if he can live up to the hype in 2013.
