2013 NFL Draft Player Prospect Profile: E.J. Manuel

Whether he likes it or not, teams are going to compare Florida State‘s E.J. Manuel to Christian Ponder from a few years ago, but the Seminoles quarterback may have the potential to be better than the current Minnesota Vikings quarterback in the NFL.

There was a reason why Manuel was considered a strong Heisman candidate at the beginning of the 2012 season as he has an advantage over most other quarterbacks as he’s capable of being effective on his feet if needed. Manuel carried the Seminoles’ offense on his shoulders for a majority of the 2012 season and it will be interesting to see how he makes the transition to the pros.

Even though Manuel has proven to be great in the shotgun throughout his career, accuracy on deep passes is still something that needs work heading into the 2013 season. Still, there’s no reason why anyone shouldn’t take a risk on a quarterback like Manuel–especially when looking at what happened with last year’s quarterback class.

If last season is any indication, there’s no telling what to expect from quarterbacks in this year’s class–no matter what round they may be selected in. Manuel has shown plenty of potential throughout his college career and even though there are a few areas in need of improvement–the potential is certainly worth the risk once the 2013 NFL Draft gets under way next week.

Just look at what Russell Wilson accomplished last year and there’s no reason why any team shouldn’t consider selecting Manuel in this year’s draft.
