When it comes to players seeing their draft stock rise over the last couple of weeks, no player may have benefited more than LSU‘s Barkevious Mingo as he’s being considered one of the top linebackers from this year’s draft class. The Tigers have always been praised for their defense and Mingo was one of the main reasons why they saw so much success during the 2012 season–which is why NFL teams should be excited bout the star linebacker for the 2013 season.
Mingo has been praised for how effective he is as a pass rusher as his explosive first step is difficult to contain and there are plenty of teams in need of a big pass rusher for the 2013 season. While most rookies tend to struggle at times as they adjust to the NFL level, there’s a good chance Mingo could have an immediate impact in 2013–especially when looking at how some of the previous rookies have performed over the last couple of years.
The league has seen some effective pass rushers (J.J. Watt anyone?) make an immediate impact as rookies and even if he doesn’t live up to the same level as the Houston Texans star–it will be interesting to see what type of impact Mingo can make in 2013. Of course, the main factor for Mingo’s success will be whether or not he can bulk up a bit considering where he stands from a size perspective compared to some of the other players in the league.
