Mark Jackson Fined $25K for “Hit Men” Comments About Denver Nuggets

Mama, there goes that man. Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson has been fined $25,000 for his comments about the Denver Nuggets sending “hit men” after Stephen Curry in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series.

Jackson repeatedly said Denver played dirty and tried to hurt Curry, who also acknowledged the rough play. Naturally, Jackson said he disagrees with the NBA‘s ruling and statement that claims Jackson tried to influence the officiating in the series.

Now if you’ve ever heard Jackson as a color commentator before he took the Warriors’ gig, you know he’s not a conniving type of coach who would try to influence anything with his words, so this fine and this whole situation with the Nuggets and Warriors is pretty outrageous. Regardless, Jackson got the last laugh as the Warriors topped the Nuggets at home in Game 6 to advance to the Conference Semifinals.

Definitely don’t count on a similar series from the Warriors against the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg Popovich‘s squad won’t get into any scrappy situations and Jackson should know that nothing he says will affect the officiating in a series that involves the Spurs.

Curry will undoubtedly get a lot of attention just like he did against Denver, but he’s not going to be the focal point in the series again because unlike the Nuggets, the Spurs have big names on their roster that will demand plenty of attention as well. Needless to say, this isn’t going to be an average series.
