Although Americans have historically dominated the PGA Players Championship, the last five winners have all been from different countries. American Matt Kuchar took home last year’s Player Championship trophy, but the field is wide open this year.
Tiger Woods is the overall favorite at 8-1 odds with Rory McIlroy and Masters champion Adam Scott tied for the second-best odds at 15-1. Luke Donald comes in next at 20-1 with Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia all knotted at 25-1. Last year’s champ is right behind that pack as Kuchar is slated at 30-1.
The top 30 golfers in the world are in this tournament with several notables paired against one another for day one. Woods and McIlroy are knotted to start the tournament as are Donald and Scott, so there could be some early fireworks.
Everyone has to keep an eye on 22-year-old Derek Ernst as well, who won the Wells Fargo Championship last week despite barely qualifying for the tournament as the fourth alternate.
