2013 Players Championship: David Lingmerth Enters Sunday as Leader; Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia Controversy

Despite some nasty weather causing delays, there was plenty of excitement from Saturday’s round of the Players Championship as David Lingmerth heads into Sunday as the leader at 12 under par. Lingmerth’s solid performance has given him a two-stroke lead heading into Sunday, but it was the exchange of words between Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia that has everybody talking.

Garcia was frustrated over a bad shot on the second hole that caused him to bogey and while he was being interviewed during the weather delay, he took a shot at Woods by saying he was to blame for instigating crowd noise during his shot. These two players have always been known for having somewhat of a testy relationship–so it will be interesting to see how they perform in the final round considering they’re both two shots back of Lingmerth at 10 under.

Either way, the final round of this year’s Player Championship will certainly be interesting to watch considering it seems like an open race at this point. Lingmerth may be the leader at the moment, but it really wouldn’t be a surprise if Garcia or Woods made a strong push on the final day to come out on top as this year’s champion.

Lingmerth could easily continue his solid play and finish out on top, but it’s no secret that Garcia and Woods will put up a strong fight to stop that from happening. When taking everything into consideration from the last couple of days, anything is possible on Sunday–so golf fans will have plenty to watch.
