2013 Indianapolis 500 Preview

Memorial Day weekend is upon us and that means cookouts and reflecting on those who have given their lives so that we can be free. One of those great freedoms is sports and Memorial Day weekend means it’s that time again — the biggest auto racing event of the year!

To say the Indianapolis 500 is wide open this year is an understatement, so it’s shaping up to be one of the best races in recent memory. Ed Carpenter won the pole, so now the owner-driver of a one-car team is on the radar. However, big names like Marco Andretti and Will Power are looking to squash the Cinderella talk and make some history of their own. Even then, Dario Franchitti is looking to win his fourth Indy 500 and second in a row, so nobody is a clear-cut favorite, regardless of background or history. In short, it’s anyone’s race, so if you’re placing bets, you might as well close your eyes and spin the wheel.

Of course, there are some ladies in the pack — including Simona de Silvestro, Ana Beatriz, Brits Pippa Mann and Katherine Legge – so don’t forget about them. Although none of the female drivers will start the race higher than 24th, all of them have a shot in this year’s race that could literally see anyone taking the checkered flag.
