Patrick Ewing‘s days as an assistant coach are over…because he’s now a associate head coach!
Under new Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford, the Hall-of-Famer is making progress in his overall goal to obtain a coveted head coach position. Just this past May, Ewing said he was frustrated by the lack of opportunity.
He interviewed with the Detroit Pistons in 2011, and with the Bobcats in 2012, but no dice. Ewing is now out of a coaching job, after the Orlando Magic decided to overhaul their roster, so he’s has been working as a broadcaster. But thanks to longtime friend and Bobcats owner, Michael Jordan, he now has another shot at taking his already illustrious NBA career to the next level.
Jordan and Ewing were teammates on the USA “Dream Team” of the 1992 Olympics that brought home the gold at Barcelona. Two decades later, they are working together again, and hopefully Ewing will gain that hands-on experience he needs, to accomplish his ultimate goal of becoming an NBA head coach. Wasn’t it nice of MJ to give his buddy this opportunity?
So what do you think? Will Ewing ultimately be the head coach that finally turns around the Bobcats’ organization? Let us know by leaving a comment below, or tweet us with the hashtag R-M-L.
