2013 NBA Draft: Portland Trail Blazers Select C.J. McCollum With No. 10 Pick

With the 10th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select C.J. McCollum.

Age: 21

Height: 6-foot-3

Position: Point Guard

School/Country: Lehigh

About the Prospect: There probably isn’t any more prolific scorer in this year’s draft than C.J. McCollum. Despite missing the second half of this past season with a foot injury, McCollum has already proven to NBA scouts his downright ability to score the basketball. In four seasons at Lehigh, McCollum never once averaged below 19 points per game in any season — that’s production. He’s listed as a point guard, but his scoring ability makes him an ideal combo in the back court. He’s relatively unknown, but certainly one of the most talented players in this year’s field.

About His Impact on Team: McCollum fits in well with the Trail Blazers and you know he will enjoy playing alongside reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard. However, McCollum could easily be shipped elsewhere considering Portland’s past history of making draft-day deals. Either way, the Trail Blazers could easily keep a scorer like the ex-Lehigh star just to pad the stat sheet and facilitate to the team’s top-notch players like Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge. Best case scenario, the Lillard and McCollum combination will mature into one of the best backcourts in the league. Keep an eye on McCollum as the draft moves on though, because the Trail-Blazers could easily flip him later on in the night for a better value.
