Breaking Down 2013 MLB Home Run Derby Participants

The best part about the MLB Home Run Derby is the captains get to pick any player they want, regardless of their All-Star status. AL captain Robinson Cano and NL captain David Wright have a unique lineup ready for this year’s home run derby during MLB All-Star weekend and we’re here to break it down.

Prince Fielder and Chris Davis are superb choices by Cano for the AL team. Fielder is one of the best hitters in all of baseball and many are predicting Davis to break the MLB’s single-season home run record. Here’s to hoping the derby doesn’t mess up his swing.

Oh, and Cano has yet to pick his third and final team member.

What? An indecisive New York Yankees player? No….can’t be.

Carlos Gonzalez was any easy pick for Wright as CarGo is as steady as they come, which is key to winning the derby. Bryce Harper is the opposite, but when he’s hot, he’s arguably the best in the business, so Wright went out on a limb with these selections, but not as much as Michael Cuddyer. A surprise selection, the Colorado Rockies‘ outfielder’s stats suggest he’s just a product of Coors Field, so it will be interesting to see how he fares at Citi Field in the derby.
