Kobe Bryant Won’t Take Pay Cut, Will Cripple the Los Angeles Lakers For Years
Whenever Kobe Bryant takes the floor, we all know that something exciting is bound to happen. We’ve come to expect an All-Star effort from the Black Mamba every single night and he still finds a way to impress us. However, Kobe’s ego is starting to get in the way of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ future and how they are building their franchise.
It would be one thing if the aging Bryant had a secure contract, but No. 24 is an unrestricted free agent after the 2013-14 season. If LA and Kobe are unable to hammer out a deal then the Mamba could easily be heading elsewhere this time next year. Does Bryant really have enough nerve to leave the Lakers just because they wont through him major cash?
Yes. He’s that big of an ego manic.
Despite seeing the Lakers crumble without him and the lack of talent on the LA roster, Kobe still wants the team to give him a hefty contract. In fact, Kobe offered up this gem when talking about what the notion of him taking a decrease in pay:
“I’m not taking any (pay cut) at all..Nah, I’m going to try to get as much as I possibly can.”
Something tells me that these comments had something to do with Dwight Howard leaving Tinsel Town this offseason. In a perfect world, the Lakers would be able to bring back the face of their franchise and give him a kings ransom. However, the NBA has a salary cap and can’t just throw millions of dollars at a player who’s career is surely on the decline.
It will be interesting to see what the Lake Show decides to do with its star act.
