Jadeveon Clowney has been the biggest name in NFL Draft talk for almost a year now and he can’t enter the pros for another 10 months. However, that may not be stopping him from getting into trouble with the league.
The University of South Carolina is investigating Clowney’s possible contact with new sports agent Jay-Z. If the superstar pass-rusher has been talking with the most popular player in the agency game today, that could jeopardize Clowney’s eligibility for the 2013 college football season.
But here’s my question: Is anyone surprised?
I mean this kid would have easily been the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft had be been eligible. All he had to do this year was keep his hands clean, win the Heisman Trophy and possibly contend for a national championship. Then he could enjoy all the ridiculous spoils that come with being a star in the NFL.
Kudos to South Carolina for investigating themselves instead of trying to hide it and wait for the NCAA to come down after it’s all over. Regardless, the Gamecocks could be without Clowney, but the kid will still get big money even if he’s found guilty of violations. Such is life in college sports.
