Name: Tavon Austin
Team: St. Louis Rams
Position: Wide Receiver
Years Pro: Rookie
Draft stock: (Rising) The 2013 Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation has already started and Austin is everyone’s favorite to haul in the trophy. Not to mention, people across the NFL believe that Austin can save Sam Bradford‘s mediocre career and be the next Percy Harvin in the process. Good luck with these expectations, Tavon.
2012 fantasy impact: Last year, the common fantasy football owner had no idea who Austin was considering he played at the collegiate level for the West Virginia Mountaineers. While in school, Austin was exceptional and caused jaws to drop when he went to the NFL Scouting Combine and ran a very impressive 4.34 40-yard dash. Let’s see if that speed does him any good on Sundays.
Best-case scenario: Austin immediately hits it off with Bradford and the Rams’ offense remains pass heavy. His quickness allows for the Rams to use Austin in multiple formations and find the end zone on a weekly basis.
Worst-case scenario: The Rams’ pitiful running game forces teams to double-team Austin, who doesn’t have the size or physicality to shed defensive backs at the professional level.
Where you should draft him: At this point everyone knows about Austin, so don’t fall into peer pressure and draft him too early. With that being said, if he’s available in the seventh round then you have to pull the trigger.
