Top 5 NFL Players Poised To Haul in Fantasy Football MVP in 2013

Top 5 NFL Players Poised To Haul in Fantasy Football MVP in 2013
Ron Chenoy - USA TODAY SPORTS

One of the highest personal honors in sports is the MVP trophy. This particular accolade is given to the sole player who demonstrates such excellence that he becomes the story rather than the team that he plays for. In essence, Adrian Peterson was named the NFL's MVP in 2012 as all season long he carried the Minnesota Vikings and Single single-handedly landed them and NFC Wild Card spot.

Although Peterson will be dominant once again this fall, it appears the Vikings are more committed to the passing game in 2013, which could very well put a clamp on the Minnesota running back's production.

With that being said, who will take Peterson's thrown as the Most Valuable Player in all of fantasy football this season?

Quarterbacks are usually the highest scoring players in fantasy football, but some managed to separate themselves via the rushing touchdown. However, quarterbacks like Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers have leaped into elite status by throwing an incredible amount of touchdowns and producing week after week. The sky is the limit for Manning in 2013 as he's the puppeteer of a Denver Broncos' offense that only got better this offseason.

Here are my top five NFL players most likely to haul in the fictional Fantasy Football MVP in 2013.

No. 5 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: Alfred Morris

No. 5 MVP Candidate: Alfred Morris
Geoff Burke - USA TODAY SPORTS

It was great to see the Washington Redskins' offense finally excel in 2012, yet without Alfred Morris the Redskins would've found themselves in the cellar once again. In fact, Morris led the team in rushing with 1,613 yards on the ground. This season, I look for the second-year back to be even better as he's good enough to score way more than 13 times like he did in his rookie campaign. Besides, if Robert Griffin III isn't able to give a go come Week 1, then Morris will have an even heavier load for Washington.

No. 4 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: Jimmy Graham

No. 4 Fantasy MVP Candidate: Jimmy Graham
Derrick E. Hingle - USA TODAY SPORTS

The New Orleans Saints were an absolute mess without their head coach in 2012. Even still, Jimmy Graham was one of the lone bright spots with nearly 1,000 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. As crazy as it sounds, that actually is a down year for Graham who posted 13 touchdowns and 1,310 yards receiving the year prior. Now that 2013 is upon us, I see Graham connecting with Drew Brees at least 100 times as No. 80 is a very likely MVP candidate if you ask me.

No. 3 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: A.J. Green

A.J. Green
David Kohl - USA TODAY SPORTS

Everyone is talking about how underrated the Cincinnati Bengals will be in 2013. Well, I'm not going to beat that narrative to death and besides, Green is ready for a breakout season regardless of what the Bengals' record is when the season comes to a close. In just his second season, Green was able to catch 97 passes with 11 of them going in the end zone. Cincinnati may be poised for a Super Bowl run, but it's Green who already has the Fantasy Football MVP trophy in his sights.

No. 2 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: Adrian Peterson

No. 2 Fantasy MVP Candidate: Adrian Peterson

One thing is for certain: Adrian Peterson isn't going to surprise anyone this year. Many NFL fans were duped last season when they left Peterson and his previously torn ACL for dead, only to see No. 28 lead the league in rushing and become a 2,000-yard rusher for the first time in his six-year NFL career. However, the Vikes are obviously more committed to the passing game with Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson both in Purple and Gold.

No. 1 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: Peyton Manning

No. 1 Fantasy Football MVP Candidate: Peyton Manning
Ron Chenoy - USA TODAY SPORTS

Peyton Manning's first season with the Denver Broncos could have gone better and 2013 will be the best year of Manning's illustrious 14-year career. Not only have Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas improved this offseason, Denver also brought pass-catching menace Wes Welker to the Mile High City. Welker has shown in the past that he can get open as he has reeled in 240 passes in just the last two years alone! Manning has all of his ducks in a row and he will play worthy of a fantasy football MVP nod this year.
