5 Bold College Football Predictions For Exciting 2013 Campaign

5 Bold College Football Predictions For Exciting 2013 Campaign
H. Darr Beiser - USA TODAY SPORTS

Americans love their college football games and in just a few short weeks, the sports world will once again be blessed with Saturdays that are jam-packed with pigskin. However, the 2012 standings have been wiped away and now the focus is on a new year that is sure to be full of ups and downs. With that being said, I laid out five bold predictions that should cause you to drop your jaw -- in a good way.

The term "bold" is often misused and thrown in front of wimpy predictions just to make them sound tougher. Well, I'm going all out here as I firmly believe that Mack Brown's 16-year run with the Texas Longhorns will be coming to a close this season. Many think that Brown is untouchable because he's been with the program for so long, but the Longhorns' recent struggles should result in Brown losing his job.

The only way that Brown can make me eat my words by pushing his team toward a Big 12 title for the first time since 2009. Moreover, I doubt i'll have any egg on my face as the Longhorns have routinely disappointed as of late and it all starts at the top with Brown. Anyway, if you think my take on the Longhorns' head coach is way out of left field, then be sure to check out the rest of the slideshow as I give a in-depth rundown of how I see the 2013 college football season shaking out.

Bold Prediction No. 5: No BCS Team Will Finish Undefeated

Andrew Weber - USA TODAY SPORTS

It was pretty anti-climatic when the Ohio State Buckeyes ran off an undefeated season in 2012. The Buckeyes might have been the best team in the country last season, but it wasn't a big deal due to the school's bowl ineligibility. This year, I don't see any BCS team going undefeated as the parity across the country is alive and well. While I could see a few teams with one-loss seasons, there is no way that a team reels off a perfect season in 2013.

Bold Prediction No. 4: Jadeveon Clowney Will Disappoint

J
Kim Klement - USA TODAY sports

With one big hit Jadeveon Clowney went from a mid-first-round draft pick to an expected NFL superstar. I'll admit that Clowney's strength is undeniable, but there is no way that he lives up to the hype this year. It's incredibly hard for a defensive lineman to make a routine impact at the collegiate level, anyway. Therefore, the huge buzz surrounding Clowney will be taken down to dull roar once the season comes to a close.

Bold Prediction No. 3: Ohio State and Michigan Will Play Twice In 2013

Andrew Weber - USA TODAY sports

The Big 10 Championship game is always worth watching, but this year it is going to be an absolute must-watch contest. That's largely because the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines will be doing battle in the game for likely the last time. You see, the Wolverines and Buckeyes are currently in separate divisions, but will be placed in the same one next season. Naturally, this is the last year that the two can meet in the Big 10 Championship battle and as fate would have it the two powerhouse programs play the week prior to the Championship game at the Big House. Two rivalry games in consecutive weeks? Sign me up!

Bold Prediction No. 2: Mack Brown Gets Fired

M
Kevin Jairaj - USA TODAY sports

Mack Brown has been the head coach of the Texas Longhorns since 1998, which makes him one of the most tenured coaches in all of NCAAF. With that being said, 2013 will definitely be his last year wearing the burnt orange. Since 2009, the Longhorns have only placed in the postseason top five once and the struggles start at the top with Brown, who appears to have lost the spark. Alamo Bowl victories mean nothing to Texas and Brown is one of the the head coaches on the hot seat this fall.

Bold Prediction No. 1: Fresno State Bulldogs Will Be Your Favorite Team

Troy Babbitt - USA TODAY sports

It never fails, there is always a college football program that comes out of the woodwork and holds us captive all season. This year, the Fresno State Bulldogs will wind up being your favorite team. Behind gun-slinging quarterback Derek Carr, the Bulldogs have a powerful offense that is impossible to turn off. Not to mention, star wide receiver Davonte Adams will soon be making the gigantic leap to the NFL gridiron.
