Name: Brandon Gibson
Team: Miami Dolphins
Position: Wide Receiver
Years Pro: 4
Draft stock: (Dropping) The Dolphins bandwagon may be growing by the day, but not too many fantasy football owners are buying into the Gibson hype. Despite leading the St. Louis Rams in receiving touchdowns last year, Gibson wasn’t offered a contract from the Rams and the Dolphins swooped in and signed him to a three-year worth $9.75 million — $3.75 million of the contract being guaranteed.
2012 fantasy impact: Apart from Chris Givens, Gibson was easily the most exciting wide receiving for the Rams in 2012. Also, Gibson was more consistent than Givens as the former hauled in five touchdowns and nearly 700 yards receiving. Sam Bradford and Gibson showed some chemistry, and the Dolphins are hoping Gibson has the same connection with franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Best-case scenario: Gibson’s small stature allows him to sneak past defenders and Miami reaps the benefits of giving him such a large deal. In fact, Gibson is more productive than Mike Wallace in 2013!
Worst-case scenario: Wallace and Brian Hartline vulture a bulk of Gibson’s targets, which makes the journeyman wide receiver all but obsolete in 2013.
Where you should draft him: Taking a gamble on Gibson isn’t the smartest thing you can do, in fact, it might be one of the dumbest. However, he’ll be available come the 15th round of most drafts.
