Name: LaMichael James
Team: San Francisco 49ers
Position: Running Back
Years Pro: 1
Draft stock: (Rising) Kendall Hunter has done an excellent job as the 49ers’ back-up running back in years prior, but it appears he won’t be healthy for Week 1, which opens the door for a speedster like James. With a few fantasy football owners claiming that James can be the next Darren Sproles, this second-year running back is sure to have his name called at your draft party.
2012 fantasy impact: San Francisco didn’t use James like we all hoped it would in 2012. In addition, the former Oregon Ducks running back didn’t do himself any favors by getting bench the first 12 games of 2012. Even still, the 49ers like what they see out of James so far this offseason and will show it on Sundays by giving him a bigger share of the football.
Best-case scenario: Colin Kaepernick meshes well with James, who emerges in his second year as the second coming to the aforementioned Sproles. San Fran finds itself another offensive weapon.
Worst-case scenario: Poor habits and bad footwork land James in the doghouse and Hunter rebounds from a torn Achilles in a big way.
Where you should draft him: James is a value pick come the 13th round considering his great upside and 49ers’ inconsistent running back situation.
