Team: Texas A&M Aggies
Rant Sports College Football Rank: No. 4
Strength: Only one team in College Football is entering 2013 with a Heisman Trophy winner on its roster, and its the Aggies. Contrary to popular opinion, Johnny Manziel will not fall flat on his face this year and Texas A&M is going to be just fine. With redshirt sophomore wide receiver Mike Evans still in College Station, Johnny Football won’t have any problems carving up the SEC just like he did last fall.
Weakness: You need to have a stout defense in order to win the SEC, which the Aggies definitely had in 2012. However, the defensive unit looks a little bare this season as three of Texas A&M’s prime-time defenders from last season are now in the NFL. Replacing Sean Porter and Jonathan Stewart will be difficult as they both were ball-hawking linebackers who thrived when it mattered most.
Player with most to prove: Manziel has nothing to prove, he let all of his play to the talking last year and celebrated in the offseason — so what? However, with talks of a suspension for No. 2, back-up quarterbacks Matt Joeckel and Matt Davis will both be looking to make a name for themselves if indeed Johnny Football is lost for a bulk of the season. Keep in mind that these signal-callers have combined to throw 11 collegiate passes.
Projected 2013 regular season record: 11-1
