Name: Vick Ballard
Team: Indianapolis Colts
Position: Running Back
Years Pro: 1
Draft stock: (Rising) Despite Ahmad Bradshaw making his way to Indy this offseason, the Colts will likely give Ballard many carries this season due to Bradshaw’s injury-riddled past. In addition, first-year Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton has called his offense “a physical, downhill running football team,” so the Ballard hype is getting larger by the day.
2012 fantasy impact: As a fifth-round pick, not too many people expected Ballard to give the Colts so much production. After a Donald Brown injury in Week 4, Ballard emerged as the Colts most consistent runner. Nearly 850 rushing yards and three touchdowns later, Ballard was undoubtedly one of Indy’s most successful rookies.
Best-case scenario: Bradshaw isn’t able to recover from offseason surgery, which opens the door for Ballard to improve on his impressive 2012 campaign. Ballard finishes his second season as a 1,000-yard rusher and a fantasy football stud.
Worst-case scenario: Andrew Luck doesn’t have the luxury of handing the ball off as much as he did last season, as the Colts turn in a rather disappointing season in which they are forced to come from behind via the pass.
Where you should draft him: Ballard is a sneaky pick considering everyone has already proclaimed Bradshaw as a mainstay with the Colts. Feel free to take Ballard as early as the 10th round.
