Fantasy Football Impacts of New York Giants Signing Brandon Jacobs

Well, so much for David Wilson taking over as the next fantasy-relevant running back in the Big Apple. The second-year pro with tons of potential fumbled twice in the New York Giants‘ Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys and is clearly in Tom Coughlin‘s doghouse. In other words, he won’t see the field for a while, but a familiar name will carry the rock for big blue.

With Andre Brown out, the Giants wasted no time in giving Brandon Jacobs a call. It literally took one bad game by Wilson for Coughlin to give up on him and bring back the bruising ballcarrier who helped lead the Giants to two Super Bowl wins in the past half a dozen years. But does that mean you should drop Wilson from your fantasy team and scarf up Jacobs as quickly as you can? Not quite.

Sure, the Jacobs signing definitely does some damage to Wilson’s fantasy value, but after sitting out all offseason, Jacobs isn’t ready to step in and carry the ball 20 times against the red-hot Denver Broncos in Week 2. No, this was more of a scare/motivational tactic by Coughlin to kick Wilson into gear. Hold on to Wilson for now and don’t jump to the waiver for Jacobs…yet.
