Fantasy Football Start’em, Sit’em: Week 5
Week 5 of the fantasy football season is an interesting one because of the specific teams on bye weeks, which means many fantasy owners are scrambling to find decent starts. If you need some help with your lineup, we’ve got you covered:
Philip Rivers is still overlooked in a lot of leagues, so if you’re lucky enough to get him, put him in your lineup because he’s going to go wild against the Oakland Raiders. However, you’d be wise to sit Matt Schaub because the San Francisco 49ers‘ defense isn’t usually kind to opposing quarterbacks and Schaub is still getting over the Houston Texans‘ disaster in Week 4.
Knowshon Moreno has been a pleasant surprise this year and he’s in for a big game against the Dallas Cowboys because the Denver Broncos are likely to be up by 20 points in the fourth quarter, which means garbage points for Moreno, if nothing else. Ryan Mathews needs to sit against the Raiders because, believe it or not, they actually have a solid run defense this year…and Mathews has been nothing to write home about for fantasy owners.
Eric Decker is often the forgotten name among Denver receivers, but he should be in your lineup against a reeling Cowboys secondary that is trying to cheer up Morris Claiborne because he’s awful and he knows it. Anquan Boldin should not be in your lineup because he’s going up against the Texans, who have the league’s toughest pass defense. Sit him if at all possible.
The Arizona Cardinals have allowed the second-most fantasy points to tight ends this year, so Greg Olsen is a solid play against them in Week 5. On the flip side, don’t start Brandon Myers because the New York Giants are awful, he’s been a ghost in fantasy land for the past two weeks and the Philadelphia Eagles are rough on opposing tight ends.
The Eagles have a dynamite matchup against the Giants, who have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing defenses this year, so start Philly’s unit with confidence. However, the Tennessee Titans‘ usually reliable defense should be on your bench because the Kansas City Chiefs are not kind to opposing fantasy defenses.
That’s all, folks! What’s that? No, we don’t do kickers. Good luck in Week 5!
