ALDS Game 1: Boston Red Sox Use Green Monster To Scare Off Tampa Bay Rays

Many have argued that home-field advantage in MLB really doesn’t exist, but anyone who watched Game 1 of the ALDS between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox would know that is not the case. In fact, one can argue that Fenway Park itself was the MVP of Game 1 for the Red Sox!

The Rays should have some experience with the infamous ballpark considering they trek to the Boston at least nine times a season. However, Tampa Bay left fielder Sean Rodriguez had so many miscues on Friday that it makes you wonder if the Rays even practiced taking batted balls off of the “Green Monster?” Not to mention, right fielder Wil Myers was also clearly thrown off by the park’s unique dimensions.

Either way, Rodriguez was exposed by the “Monster” as countless balls were pelted off of the enormous wall and he was left in awful field position. While this doesn’t account for the 12 runs that Tampa Bay surrendered, the defensive deficiencies surely didn’t help the Rays’ cause.
