Week 7 of college football action offers a classic SEC showdown between Florida and LSU that should produce another high-scoring thriller. That sounds funny considering these are two teams from a conference historically dominated by defense, but it’s been fun to watch so far this season and that shouldn’t change on Saturday.
However that’s not to say these two teams can’t play defense. Everyone has seen the explosiveness of the Gators’ on that side of the ball — they play rough and last week against Miami they only allowed 206 total yards. More importantly, they can force turnovers as they’ve already picked off eight passes this season.
On offense, Tyler Murphy has been impressive in his two games as Florida’s starting quarterback, but now he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders as he plays in the most daunting stadium in the country. If this kid is shaking in his cleats when he walks onto the field in Death Valley, the Gators are doomed.
For LSU, the Tigers are ranked in the top 10 for a reason. Their offense is a dominant force that can outscore almost anyone and Zach Mettenberger has been incredible this year while often targeting underrated receiver Jarvis Landry, who is making Calvin Johnson-like catches this year. It may sound odd, but LSU’s greatest weapon in 2013 is its offense.
This contest should go down to the wire and it all depends on Murphy’s awareness in the clutch. Don’t count on him outscoring Mettenberger and the Tigers’ offense, no matter how good Florida’s defense plays. The Gators can try to chomp all they want in death valley, but in the end, the name of LSU’s home stadium speaks for itself.
