Jim Irsay Puts Another Twist in Peyton Manning-Andrew Luck Saga
One day after the rising Indianapolis Colts suffered a surprise loss and five days before Indy will host the Denver Broncos, colorful team owner Jim Irsay decided to defend his decision to trade in Peyton Manning for Andrew Luck last year. Call it coincidence, strategy or something else, but Irsay has just provided a perfect segue into the NFL regular season game that will be talked about more than any other this season.
After everyone virtually forgot about the whole saga because of Manning’s success in Denver and Luck’s success in Indianapolis, Irsay chose now to tell everyone that the four-time MVP winner told him to draft his successor. In fact, Irsay claims that Manny told him he was crazy if he didn’t take the next quarterback prodigy first overall.
So did Manning want to leave Indy? No, he wanted what was best for the franchise that he loved so dearly. Now that he’s returning there on Sunday night, the Colts are paying proper respect with a video tribute to No. 18 that will be shown on the jumbotron prior to kickoff. Needless to say, it’s already going to be an incredibly emotional event, so for whatever reason, Irsay just added fuel to the fire.
