Jadeveon Clowney, No. 11 Gamecocks Dropped By Butch Jones, Surging Vols

The South Carolina Gamecocks are supposed to beat teams like the Tennessee Volunteers, but that just didn’t happen on Saturday.

Steve Spurrier‘s club was outplayed in Week 8 as the Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw left the game early with a knee injury and the offense would struggle mightily. In fact, South Carolina mustered a mere 12 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter of its loss to Butch Jones and the Vols. This game in particular has definitely shaken up the SEC East as the Missouri Tigers now stand atop the division with an undefeated record.

You have to tip you hat to Jones as this first-year coach can enjoy his first SEC win after a heart-breaking loss to the Georgia Bulldogs just one week ago. Now, Jones enjoys a “signature victory” as the 11th-ranked Gamecocks were surely the favorites heading into this matchup. Meanwhile, Jadeveon Clowney‘s Heisman Trophy hopes have been taken to the shed as his numbers have taken a massive dive — Clowney finished Saturday’s game without a sack.

South Carolina doesn’t have very long to catch its breath as Spurrier’s club heads on the road to face an undefeated Mizzou team this Saturday night.
