Brian Cushing’s Season-Ending Injury Adds to Houston Texans’ Nightmare Season

The Houston Texans may have lost to the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, but they got a great glimpse of their future with Case Keenum under center. However, Keenum’s near upset of Kansas City is now overshadowed by the season-ending broken leg of Houston star linebacker Brian Cushing.

The Texans are entering a bye week that has them bewildered at 2-5 with a new quarterback following the Matt Schaub debacle earlier this year and a slew of injuries that have pretty much turned this season into a practice one for Keenum. Houston’s top-rated defense will now have a tough time staying atop the NFL statistical charts without its leading tackler.

This is an especially devastating blow for the Texans as Cushing signed a new six-year contract in September, which is a huge deal considering Cushing came back from the PED episode from his sophomore season. So now Houston will start preparing for 2014 when Cushing is healthy and the era of Case Keenum truly begins.
