Duke Upsets No. 14 Virginia Tech: Blue Devils Football Deserves Some Love

The Duke Blue Devils are no longer a basketball-only program. Instead, the football program over at Duke is flexing its muscles and college football fans across the country are starting to retire the “Duke has a football team?” jokes.

Virginia Tech Hokies fans, however, aren’t exactly too happy about Duke’s recent resurgence on the gridiron.

On Saturday, the Blue Devils made history as they snapped a 12-game losing streak versus Virginia Tech as Duke beat a ranked opponent on the road for the first time in over 40 years! On top of that, this is Duke’s first victory over a top-25 team since 1994 when the Blue Devils topped the Virginia Cavaliers. Moreover, the most important stat might be the fact that the Blue Devils are heading to their second straight bowl game after winning their sixth game in Week 9.

Head coach David Cutcliffe deserves a bulk of the credit as he’s done a wonderful job turning the Duke program around. Meanwhile, it might be time for Frank Beamer of the Hokies to finally hang up his clipboard for good.
