Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones Should Be Applauded For Teaming Up At Duke

The life of a top college basketball recruit can’t be easy.

On top of the stresses that normal teenagers face on a daily basis; top recruits are also subjected to constant media questions and pressured by family members and programs across the country. With that being said, Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones decided on the buddy system this year as these two recruits became a “package deal” when they both officially signed with the Duke Blue Devils on Friday.

Okafor is the No. 1 player in the 2014 class as a dominant center from Chicago. Meanwhile Jones is the top point guard in the 2014 class and hails from Minnesota. This deadly combo is likely to rival what Greg Oden and Mike Conley did for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2007. Naturally, a few narrow-minded fans are already jabbing Okafor and Jones for taking the “Miami Heat” approach and banding together. To those conceded morons, I say this: these kids have played together on the USA team and if they feel comfortable together — then that’s all that matters.

Life is bigger than basketball. Things like peace of mind, security and overall wellness are hard to trump. And in this case; Okafor and Jones are doing what’s best.
