Geno Smith’s Benching, New York Jets’ Historic Loss Marks New QB Controversy

Remember when the New York Jets had a quarterback controversy? Yeah, it seems like forever ago when Mark Sanchez was placed on IR, meaning the job belonged solely to Geno Smith. Well, now that New York’s prized new signal-caller had a Jets quarterback kind of day, it’s more whiplash under center for the green gang.

Geno absolutely imploded on Sunday in a 23-point loss to the lowly Buffalo Bills, throwing three touchdowns and losing a fumble, which ultimately led to his benching. The loss puts the Jets at 5-5 and makes them the first team in NFL history to alternate wins and losses for 10 consecutive games. So it’s safe to say they’re the most inconsistent team in the league.

To make matters worse, Matt Simms led the Jets to a late scoring drive after relieving Geno under center, so now the bi-polar Jets media and fan base will be calling for the son of the Hall of Famer to remain the starter. Fair or foul, that’s life for the most entertaining team in football…and not really surprising.
