Royals Sign Jason Vargas; Kansas City Must Make Another Big Move This Offseason

The Kansas City Royals haven’t made the MLB playoffs since 1985!

Therefore with a 28-year postseason drought, the Royals are finally starting to spend some money on the open market. On Thursday, the Royals signed left-hander Jason Vargas to try and sure up the starting rotation. At 30 years old, Vargas still has plenty left in the tank, so Kansas City made sure to lock him up and threw a four-year deal worth $32 million his way.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore is on the right track when it comes to having a successful offseason, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Playing in the AL Central, Kansas City is forced to build its team to beat the Detroit Tigers, which means the Royals need to start stockpiling bats to compete with the likes of Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlaner. Without a doubt, Carlos Beltran is a guy that would fit perfectly with the Royals as this postseason hero is the type of offensive leader that Kansas City so desperately needs.

At the end of the day; kudos to the Royals for swiping Vargas, but the Royals still have plenty of work to do before the season opener.
