Are the Washington Redskins interested in Bucs WR Michael Clayton?
[picappgallerysingle id="9463723"]
The Washington Redskins are hurting at the wide receiver position, without a doubt. Could they be interested in Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton? The Redskins depth chart is filled with two starters, Santana Moss and aging receiver, Joey Galloway. Do the Redskins really want to head into the 2010 season with those two as the key receivers?
New Redskin GM Bruce Allen has a history with a wide receiver who seems to be on the bubble, Michael Clayton. Clayton had a fantastic rookie season with the Bucs in Tampa, but has failed to produce after that rookie season. There have been a variety of reasons, he suffered injuries, and was subjected to a variety of different starting quarterbacks in several years. Brian Griese, Jeff Garcia, Chris Simms, Josh Johnson, Josh Freeman, just to name a few in the last few seasons.
The Redskins need some depth on the roster in the receiver slot, and with Allen’s knowledge of Clayton during his time in Tampa, Tampa’s new youth movement, Clayton could very well be on the bubble. It appeared last year that Tampa was committed to making a long term commitment to Clayton, inking him to a 4 year, 24 million dollar contract. However, Clayton underachieved badly last season, then again, the Buccaneers were 3-13 last season.
Sure, Clayton isn’t going to push the Redskins to the Super Bowl this season, but let’s be real here, neither are the Galloway or Moss. Perhaps the best strategy for the ‘Skins would be to wait and see what the New York Giants wind up doing with undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz who tore up the Jets secondary last night with 6 catches for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns.
I think in order for the Redskins to get over .500 this season, they need to add an additional veteran wide receiver.

This might sound like a long shot and noone really knoew what is going to happen, but Plaxico Burress should be out of jail in a few weeks and I am sure it would not take him long to get into football shape. Learning the playbook on the otherhand could take a while.
M. Clayton will be a great addition to skins. He bring veteran exp. and leadership qualities and character that is much needed to be successful in this league. He’s was the best blocking WR for the bucs they just didn’t use his strengths enough. He’s physical and smart w/exp…don’t sleep on him.
