Cam Newton Schedules Visit With Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins already know Donovan McNabb will not be with the team next season–which is why they’ll be looking to add a quarterback through free agency or the draft this offseason. If they do end up going with a quarterback from this year’s draft, there’s one player the Redskins hope will somehow be available at No. 10–Auburn’s Cam Newton.
According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Heisman Trophy winner has scheduled a visit with the Redskins for April 15. Washington sent two representatives to Newton’s Pro Day at Auburn earlier this month, but the key factor with this situation is his availability–which means Washington may have to trade up if they really want to acquire him.
Along with Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert, Newton is listed as one of the top quarterbacks from this year’s draft class and could even be selected as the top pick in April’s draft. The Redskins would love to give a quarterback like Newton a shot–it’s just a matter of whether he’ll be available at No. 10 or if they’ll be willing to try and trade up to get him.
