The Washington Redskins traveled to St. Louis today to take on the 0-3 Rams.  The game started just as it should.  The Redskins were dominating on both sides of the ball.  They had the running game going, Rex Grossman was making all the right throws, and the defense was stellar.

The first half ended with the ‘Skins up 14-0 and significantly more impressive than the Rams in nearly every statistical category.  Shortly into the second half, the Redskins added three more to go up 17-0.  The game seemed all but over.

That’s where things started to get a little shaky.  I don’t know if they got too conservative or too relaxed, but they let the Rams right back in the game.

Whether it was penalties, turnovers, or play calling, the last quarter and a half looked quite different than the first two and a half.

I’ll write my weekly “Good, Bad, and Ugly” article tomorrow and dive a little deeper, but here are some initial quick-hitters:

- Rex Grossman takes risks at the wrong time, and that resulted in two interceptions today

- Ryan Torain absolutely exploded today, first in a reserve role, and then as the feature back.  He ran for 135 yards on only 19 carries and he also had a touchdown.

- The defense was incredible all day.  The pass rush was relentless, the run defense was stout, and the secondary held up well against a very talented young quarterback.

- Penalties were a big problem.  More on that tomorrow.

A win is a win!  Just like two of their first three wins, it wasn’t pretty, but the Redskins are 3-1 heading into the bye week.  Throw in the fact that both the Eagles and Cowboys had massive collapses today, and the ‘Skins are alone atop the NFC East!
