Are you bummed out like me that the Redskins aren’t playing this week?  The Bye week is always bittersweet.  Yes, it gives the team a chance to rest, get healthy, gameplan, and all that jazz, but it does make Sundays a little less exciting.

Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of news!

First, Brian Orakpo has been given the Defensive Player of the Week award following his 2.5 sack performance against Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams.

Orakpo and the rest of the defense have been better than advertised so far this season.  He and Ryan Kerrigan are looking like one of the best outside linebacker tandems in the NFL.  Barry Cofield, Stephen Bowen, and Adam Carriker are dominating up front, and Laron Landry and OJ Atogwe roam the defensive backfield like a couple of hungry wolves.

Good for ‘Rak!

Now, onto some more amusing noise.

In case you missed it, Chris Cooley was doing his regular spot on the Lavar Arrington and Chad Dukes show yesterday, and he absolutely ripped Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Here are Cooley’s comments thanks to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post:

“I’m just saying, I’m up 24 points in the third quarter, if I’m the head coach, I feel like I could probably just take a knee for the rest of the game, punt it away and there’s no way that Detroit’s gonna drive on you that many times,” Cooley continued. “The only way you’re gonna give up that many points is turnovers, right? It’s hilarious to watch him throw pick sixes, too, back-to-back. I loved it. But it wouldn’t be as good as my cage fight.”

Dan Steinberg – This cagefighting thing refers to a previous week’s episode, and so LaVar Arrington then asked Cooley how long it would take him to beat Romo in the cage.

“For me to beat Tony? I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know what kind of cagefighting skills he has,” Cooley responded. “I would probably try to incorporate my wrestling ability, like when I was in high school. Obviously it’s been a while, but I didn’t like to beat people fast. I like to embarrass ‘em a little bit. Like, take a 24-point lead, and then just play with it a little bit.”

As you can imagine, Cooley is getting torn apart by the national sports media, especially guys like Skip Bayless – a die hard Tony Romo supporter.

Boomer Esiason calls him an idiot.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano almost sounds like it hurt HIS feelings.

Apparently, Jim Rome loved it though, and he’s having Chris on his radio show today.

Thanks for the chuckle, Chris!

And Tony?  Feel better soon bud.
