Redskins Vs. Dolphins: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
I’m aware that these articles imply that there actually is something good to take away from yesterday’s game, and over the last five weeks, it seems like an impossible task, but I will surely do my best.
At 3-6, any hope of a playoff berth is clearly gone. The season is lost, and Mike Shanahan’s seat is getting hotter by the day. The roster lacks talent at many, and I mean many positions. April can’t come soon enough.

The Good:
- Ryan Kerrigan is a stud, and he’s one of the few bright spots of the 2011 season. He had six tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles yesterday.
- Despite his two interceptions, Rex Grossman makes the good list (partially) because he was at least able to throw the ball further than six yards. The offense was able to move the ball through the air. As bad as he’s capable of being, make no mistake, Beck is worse. Unfortunately though, he’ll be talked about below too.
- Leonard Hankerson finally had a breakout performance in front of a ton of friends and family in his Miami homecoming, grabbing eight catches for 106 yards. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find the end zone, and worse, he got injured late in the game. It is unknown at this time how badly he’s hurt.
The Bad:
- Rex threw two picks, one of which was inside the red zone. The first interception wasn’t totally his fault, as Hankerson slipped, but the second one was a back-breaker. It was first and goal on the nine yard line and he forced the ball. Say what you want about Jabar Gaffney’s route. You can’t throw that ball, Rex.
- The running game continues to be non-existent. Ryan Torain got the start this week but was only able to muster 20 yards on 11 carries. Helu had six carries for 41 yards, but half (21 yards) came on the last play of the game.
- The offensive line is banged up, and it shows. The starting combination of Trent Williams, Maurice Hurt (R), Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, and Sean Locklear was dominated by the Dolphins defensive line.
- After setting a Redskins record with a 59 yard field goal last week, Graham Gano came crashing back to Earth this week, missing two field goals (49, 50), including one that would have brought the Redskins within eight points late in the game.
- Kevin Barnes had a nice interception, but played poorly the rest of the game. The secondary is proving to be the second weakest area on the team behind quarterback. Matt Moore shredded Barnes, Hall, Wilson, Landry, and Doughty all game long.
The Ugly:
- The Redskins have lost five games in a row. It’s gotten ugly. And quite frankly, it’s hard to watch. They might have a shot at Andrew Luck after all.
- Laron Landry might not be a Redskin next season. He’s in a contract year, and so far in 2011, he’s been a disappointment. Not only has his play not exactly been spectacular, he continues to be annoying. On more than one occasion yesterday, Landry celebrated/taunted the Dolphins after giving up a big play. On one play in particular, Reggie Bush ran for first down inside the Redskins ten yard line, and Landry proceeded to turn around and wag his finger at the Miami fans. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a player so clueless or ignorant. He’ll probably want a big pay day next year. Should they give it to him? I really don’t know.
