According to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network, there are many ways to rework the contract of current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning for a potential trade.
Lombardi also believes that the Washington Redskins are the likely destination for the four-time Most Valuable Player.
Currently, the Redskins have a pair of 30-year old quarterbacks, Rex Grossman and John Beck, and it’s obvious that neither is the future for the franchise.
Manning’s era in Indianapolis will likely end because the Colts have all but locked up the first overall draft pick, meaning that Indianapolis will probably draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. The drafting of Luck will signal the end of Manning’s tenure in Indy.
With the Colts, the 35-year old Manning has won four Most Valuable Player awards, broken the single-season passing touchdowns (since broken) and passer rating records, led the team to the postseason 11 times, and won a Super Bowl (after the 2006 season). He is regarded by most as one of the top five quarterbacks in league history.
But he has missed the entire 2011 season after offseason neck surgery. He has had three neck surgeries in the past two years and there has even been speculation that Manning will retire.
As of now, he has three choices. He can retire. He can stay with the Colts for another year or two and tutor Andrew Luck. Or he can take his talents to another team.
