Washington Redskins Hire Phillip Daniels as Director of Player Development
The Washington Redskins hired, Philip Daniels, who spent the last 7 of his 15 year career with the Redskins to their staff Friday. Philip gave his official title and confirmed the news via twitter:
“We welcome Phillip back to the Redskins family,” said general manager Bruce Allen in a statement released by the team. “His 15 years of NFL experience will be a great asset for our football team.”
Daniels was released by Washington soon after the lockout concluded in July. He didn’t play in the 2011 NFL season, though no retirement was announced, at 38 years old Daniels seems to be putting his playing days behind him.
The Director of Player Development is to assist players with a variety of off-the-field tasks, including financial matters, handling the media and structuring possible post-NFL careers.
Phillip will reportedly travel with the staff to Indianapolis next week for the NFL Scouting Combine. With Philip on the staff, he’ll bring that great character and leadership he had playing for the Redskins. Philip will be responsible for making sure the Redskins bring players of high character into the organization, as well as, mentoring guys like Trent Williams and Fred Davis.
Bobby Crumpler previously held this title. There hasn’t been any news on his future, however, he’s expected to stay with the team in another capacity.
The Redskins couldn’t have found a better person for this position. Welcome home Phil!
