Every pitcher goes through struggles from time to time. Some guys struggle every single game of their short careers and some guys struggle once or twice a year. Still others, like Matt Moore of the Tampa Bay Rays get things going great for a while then seemingly let the wheels fall off. Moore took to the mound against the Kansas City Royals and struggled once again. That makes three consecutive starts that can best be described as well, stinky.
Moore gave up four runs in a bad fifth inning to the red hot Royals when he had looked decent up until that point. All total, he gave up five runs though and that proved plenty too much for the Rays to be able to overcome. For Moore the problem is beginning to be that he needs to find a way to stop the bleeding. He has now given up 19 runs in the last three starts. That covers a total of 12.1 innings. In case you are scoring at home, that isn’t good.
His ERA has ballooned from 2.18 to 4.12 over the span of those three appearances. Whatever the issue is for Moore, the Rays really need to get him straight. The team itself has struggled as well as they were on the cusp of being able to gain a lot of ground on the Boston Red Sox but let that slip through their fingers. Now they face a red hot Royals team two more days and really need to come away with a couple of wins. Moore needs to spend some extra time looking at film and talking to his coach to find out what in the world he is doing wrong. This team needs him.
