5 Players the Boston Red Sox Should Target In MLB Free Agency

It was another extremely down season for the Boston Red Sox. They seem to be saddled with some bad contracts and a roster that needs some new life sprung into it. New front office man Dave Dombrowski has certainly done a good job in the past with the Detroit Tigers. Here are five guys he needs to go after to get manager John Farrell and the Sox back on top.

Boston's bullpen wasn't really very good most of the season last year. They especially lacked a true lefty reliever. Craig Breslow was weak and now he is a free agent as well. Getting Bastardo could boost that part of the bullpen and give Farrell better options out there.

4. David Price

Price is only fourth on this list because even teams like the Red Sox have a limit on big contracts. They have quite a few of them that are just kind of eating away at the payroll at this point. If they can move one or a couple of them around, they could find room for an ace like Price that they so desperately need. Perhaps they bite the bullet and just get him anyway to try to win it all. Either way, he should be a target.

3. Alex Gordon

Gordon has certainly proven himself as a clutch and winning player the last two seasons in Kansas City, which is something the Sox could use. Boston seems to have two out of three outfield spots settled. Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr, have earned spots, while Rusney Castillo has not. He has struggled since coming from Cuba last year. Gordon could be a nice outfield bat to go with the youngsters out there.

2. Joakim Soria

Soria could be another nice veteran addition to their shaky bullpen. Koji Uehara struggled a bit more than usual last season and showed his age. When given the chance, Junichi Tazawa was also inconsistent. Soria could come in and potentially even be their closer out of the gate. It would be a great move to grab him and bolster the back end of the bullpen.

Zimmermann will probably be the cheapest of the top pitching options like Greinke, Price and Cueto. He is no slouch though, with a 70-50 career record and a 3.32 career ERA. He could potentially be the Sox's ace that they need and not break the bank at the same time. I'd look for Boston to go after a guy like him over the higher priced guys.
