With Christmas right around the corner, Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees are making a list of wants just like everyone else. If their wishes come true, it could be a brighter 2016 than the outlook may suggest.

A-Rod had a surprisingly competitive 2015 season after a year off from baseball. He tailed off towards the end of the season, however. With A-Rod still under contract and still an important part of the team, the Yankees hope he could still put up a solid season in 2016. If Rodriguez can go out there and hit 20 or more homers, they would sign up for that.
4. Starlin Castro Reaches Potential

The Yankees are wishing for a season where the newly acquired Castro reaches his potential again. A few down seasons in Chicago led to him becoming expendable, but at just 25 years old, he still has plenty of oozing potential. If the Yankees get their wish and he plays like he should, it could lead to another playoff season in the Bronx.
3. Acquire Starting Pitcher

Manager Joe Girardi certainly wouldn't mind if Cashman is able to bring in another quality starting pitcher to the fold. With a few question marks in the rotation, they sure could use another proven arm. With the Yankees holding money tight to their chest, it will probably have to come via trade. If they can add another arm, it could make all the difference.
2. Jacoby Ellsbury Bounces Back

Ellsbury had a pretty dreadful 2015 season that saw him batting just .257 with seven homers and 33 RBIs. It got so bad that he was benched in the Wild Card playoff game. The Yankees need their leadoff hitter to bounce back and hit near .300 and be the dynamic offensive player they thought he could be when they signed him.
1. Masahiro Tanaka's Elbow Holds

It's not realistic to ask for a brand new elbow for Tanaka with his ligaments hanging on from an inevitable Tommy John Surgery, so wishing for it to hold together for another season is the next best thing. He continues to be their ace, and they need him to be close to what he was before the injury to help carry the rotation in 2016. If he goes down, they are in huge trouble.
