The idea that defense wins championships is a pervasive mantra in plenty of the other major sports, but MLB is generally an exception to this rule.
Don’t tell Houston Astros left fielder Jake Marisnick.
Throw home. Go home.
A hard hit grounder to left by New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez got base runner Jacoby Ellsbury waved home in an effort to tie the game, but the cannon of a throw from Marisnick gunned him down at the plate.
Aside from a walk-off home run, this may be the most dramatic way to possibly end a game.
What a throw!
