Colorado State: It's Time to Believe in the Rams

The Colorado State Rams won their sixth straight game with a road win over in-state rival, the Air Force Falcons. The 24th ranked Rams are now 21-4 and 8-2 in conference. Before you write the win over the Falcons off as game that the Rams should have won, remember this. The Falcons went into the game tied for third in the Mountain West Conference and were 11-1 at home. In addition the Falcons had beaten two other ranked teams on their home floor. The win on Saturday was not the Rams best of the season but it is a quality road win.

It is time for fans of the Rams to adjust their thinking and their expectations of this team. On the rare occasions when the Rams have been decent in basketball, the hope of the fans was to sneak into the NCAA Tournament. Making the big dance was the goal and no one ever thought of anything beyond that. Today it is time for all Colorado State fans to dream even bigger.

If Selection Sunday was tomorrow, the Rams would probably be a five or six seed and favored to win their first-round game. This team is set up for tournament play and if they get the right draw, an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen is not out of the question. The Rams doing three things as well as almost any team in the country; they play defense, they shoot the three ball well and they rebound better than any team in the country. The other thing they have going for them is the Rams are a senior dominated team, and that’s huge in March.

I realize asking Rams fans to think big when it comes to basketball is like asking fans of the Chicago Cubs to believe that their team will be playing in October, but it is time to believe in CSU. They are a very good basketball team and a deep run into the NCAA Tournament could be in the very near future, whether Rams’ fans want to believe it or not.
