Iowa State Cyclones Will Be Right Behind Elite Teams In Big 12

Iowa State Cyclones

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

The Big 12 Conference may not be filled with talented teams from top to bottom, but there are not many conferences in college basketball that are. Anyways, there will be some very good teams at the top of the conference in the 2013-14 college basketball season and the Iowa State Cyclones will be right behind these elite teams.

First off, the elite teams that I am speaking of are the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Kansas Jayhawks. My money is on the Cowboys to win the conference, but regardless, it would be a shocker if neither team won the Big 12. If Baylor meets expectations, then it will also be considered one of the elites.

Right behind those three teams, though, will be the Cyclones.

This is a team that is coming off of a 23-win season and finished in fourth place in the Big 12 standings. Iowa State could very well finish in the top three if the Bears disappoint once again.

Some great players may no longer be on the team, but Iowa State has a great coach and they will have the talent to make the Big Dance once again. Melvin Ejim will likely have to be the new leader of this team, but he is coming off of a season where he averaged 11.3 points per game.

Talent wise, Oklahoma State and Kansas are way better than the Cyclones, but talent doesn’t always meet expectations. Just take a look at the Kentucky Wildcats last season and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

Still, Iowa State has some great players returning, the Big 12 is down and the Cyclones will not be too far behind the elite teams in the conference.
