Matchup: Maryland Terrapins (18-3) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (16-5)

The Terrapins may be one of the best teams in the Big 10 so far, but they did just lose to the Indiana Hoosiers by 19 points a couple of games back. The Buckeyes, on the other hand, just got done beating the same Hoosiers team by 12 points. So, this one ought to be interesting.

It doesn’t help Maryland’s cause that it will have to travel on the road in this one.

What to Watch For

If you are looking for a talented freshman who is making a big impact at the college level, look no further than Melo Trimble. Trimble is leading the Terps in scoring at 16.3 points per game. However, people cannot forget about players like Dez Wells, who is averaging 13.6 PPG himself.

Another phenomenal freshman who will be playing in this contest is D’Angelo Russell, who is averaging a whopping 19.4 points per game. He is also averaging 5.2 RPG and 5.1 APG. Can someone say future NBA player?

Prediction

The Buckeyes are coming off a solid win against a previously hot Hoosiers team. In no way is Ohio State out of the tournament yet — not even by a long shot — but it still has some work to do. Beating another ranked opponent like Maryland would certainly help.

Ohio State has one of the best players in the county on its side in Russell, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he dropped another 20+ points in this contest. Regardless, Thad Matta‘s team will come out on top in this one.

Maryland 77, Ohio State 82
