Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan Wolverines coaching staff have violated a handful of NCAA rules. The four minor violations were self-reported by the Wolverines, according to mlive.com.
“[T]he Michigan football program self-reported four Secondary/Level III NCAA violations from December to April,” the report read.
The good news for Michigan is that the minor violations will not result in punishment from the NCAA.
Michigan’s violations stem from the recruiting of graduate transfer Wayne Lyons of Stanford. Michigan safeties coach Mike Zordich commented on Lyons joining the team before he was officially a member. Lyons’ mother also broke a rule when she tweeted that her son would be joining the Wolverines.
Another violation was simply described as “an electronic correspondence/recruiting materials violation where electronic materials were created and/or sent to a recruit (who is not named).”
The other violations come from the Michigan staff allowing a recruit to sit in premium seating with them at a hockey game, while Harbaugh donating an autographed helmet to a high school to benefit a scholarship fund.
