Change could be coming for the Texas Longhorns.
According to a report from Chip Brown of Horns Digest, the Longhorns could soon be ending their long-time apparel affiliation with Nike in favor of a lucrative deal with Under Armour.
Under Armour, who has the richest uniform deal in college sports thanks to a recent 10-year, $90 million deal with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, would apparently be willing to pay the Longhorns $150 million over the next decade. Under Armour will speak to Texas and athletics director Steve Patterson about the record-setting deal.
“Nike has always been seen as the leader because of the history between Nike and Texas. But officials said Under Armour is not deterred and will continue to make an aggressive bid and that Steve Patterson is enamored,” Brown wrote.
Could Under Armour sway Texas away from Nike?
Only time will tell, but Nike has yet to shell out a major offer like Adidas and Under Armour to athletic departments around the nation, so Under Armour could be in the driver’s seat thanks to their aggressive offer.
